ASU Scholarships for International Students

Today, we’ll talk about Arizona State University (ASU). This is a university with a strong foreign student admission rate. In this post, we’ll look at the undergraduate admission procedure as well as the scholarships this school offers graduate students, including both Masters and PhD students.

ASU Admission Requirements

To begin with, the undergrad admission procedure allows you to apply to the institution using the Common App, Coalition App, or the College’s online website.

Also, ASU offers an optional standardized testing policy, and the paperwork required is the minimal minimum. Your school and counselor reports, and once admitted, you must also provide your final year report. The application fee for overseas students at ASU is $85; we believe this is a tad expensive.

However, they have some pretty wonderful conditions that they’ve explicitly stated on their website. Typically, they want students to satisfy one of the following criteria: be in the top 25 of their graduating class, have a 3 GPA (approximately comparable to 75 out of 100), an ACT score of 24, or a SAT score of 1180. All of these conditions are legitimate and readily met. They’re not looking for a 99-percentile student over here.

ASU Rolling Admissions

Now, the huge aspect is that this institution has rolling admission deadlines. What precisely do we mean by rolling admissions?

All of the deadlines given here for spring, summer, autumn, and even transfer are much closer to the college’s actual start date. For 2024 candidates, the spring due is in January, only a few weeks before you start.

The same goes for fall and transfer. These rolling deadlines indicate that the sooner you apply to the institution, the sooner they’ll respond with a decision, and they’re open all year. So, when you’re ready to apply, just submit your application, and you should hear back within a few weeks.

What is ASU School Fee?

The tuition charge at ASU is around $40,000 per year, or $20,000 each semester. Compared to other institutions we’ve looked at, such as Ivy Leagues and prestigious universities, where the tuition is about $70,000 or $80,000 per year, this is a very inexpensive alternative, particularly given that this is before you get any financial help. So this is the very maximum price you will pay.

This takes us to the many sorts of scholarships and financial assistance available at ASU.

ASU Scholarships for International Students

First and foremost, ASU does not give need-based assistance to overseas students.

On their website, you may come across an application known as FAFSA; however, keep in mind that the FAFSA is solely for U.S. citizens or permanent residents, thus as an international student, you are not eligible.

The good news…

Next, they provide some excellent merit-based scholarships, an example is the New American University scholarship.

1. New American University scholarship

Now, the largest one we discovered was the New American University scholarship. This pays $10,000 to $12,000 a year and can be renewed annually as long as you have high merit.

Here is when the optional SAT comes into play. If you are an incoming student with an excellent SAT score, maybe over 1400, you might easily get this $10,000 to $12,000 scholarship, which is renewable for four years and can be credited to your real tuition charge during your undergraduate studies.

The second thing I’d like to emphasize is that while applying for these scholarships, you may be requested to submit the following essays, which are not necessary for first-year students. Perhaps they will be asked when you renew your scholarship. The deadline for this merit scholarship is November 1st, according to their stated priority.

So, if you want to be considered, or boost your chances, be sure you apply by the deadline.

Obviously, $10,000 to $12,000 per year is insufficient to meet the whole tuition charge of $40,000, so you may also work on campus as an international student. You may work up to 20 hours per week on campus and earn anywhere from $1,000 to $3,000 per month. This is enough to perhaps pay your tuition, rent, food, and other living costs.

Looking at the ASU writing requirements, this is by far the greatest section. They have no written criteria.

Even their Common Application personal essay is optional. If you’ve written one, we recommend sending it since the more information you supply with your application, the greater it will be. However, if you are in a last-minute rush and just need to submit your application, you do not need any extra essays or Common App essays. This might be one of the reasons why ASU is so popular in terms of student applications since not everyone enjoys creative writing, and just eliminating the essay portion altogether makes ASU a highly appealing campus to add to many students’ college choices.

How to Apply for this Scholarship Admission to ASU

Moving on to the graduate application, you will apply as a graduate student using ASU’s application portal, which is available on their website.

The dates differ for each department, but we may generally estimate that autumn 2024 will be in January 2025, and spring will be in October 2024. Again, depending on whatever department you apply to, you will be able to get more precise dates. The application price for graduate students is $115, which is somewhat more, and the GRE is optional.

If you have a decent score and are a competent test taker, we recommend giving it since this optional requirement varies by department. As a graduate student, you are clearly applying for a more research-intensive and faster educational degree, therefore they may want more information. Other standard prerequisites include official transcripts, a CV, a statement of purpose, two letters of reference, and English proficiency exams.

These may seem to be a lot, and they are for graduate students who must work on many projects at the same time. If you need any assistance with the overall application process, certainly check out the Ivy League 101 course. The course includes a step-by-step tour of applying, how and what papers you’ll need, and specific templates to help you get started on creating those documents, including your essays and CV, as well as samples of LORs.

Is there financing for international graduate students?

Moving on to graduate financing, sadly, graduate students do not get need-based help. They do have the same New American University scholarship, which ranges from $10,000 to $12,000 each year.

It depends on your department, however it is open to all foreign students. I also want to note out that if as a graduate student, you work for 50% of the year on campus as a TA or RA, you can expect to make $24,000, which may again be used to your tuition price and help reduce the entire cost. Graduate students face a tuition fee of $62,000, which is slightly higher than average for all of the degrees offered by various colleges, but these RA and TA positions are almost always guaranteed for PhD students and optional for Master of Science students.

2. ASU Presidential Graduate Assistantship

This is primarily focused on academics rather than students, although if an ASU professor participates in this program, they may waive up to 100% of the tuition price for their students, even PhD candidates.

As a student, you may ideally search for a professor who is part of this program. As a student, you cannot apply for the program; but, if your professor is a participant, they may be able to give you a tuition discount. To give you an idea, this $17,000, which includes on-campus housing and food, could easily be reduced in half since, as a graduate student, you can live off-campus, maybe share an apartment, and save money on living expenses. In that regard, you might also learn about other part-time employment, which could cover the complete school charge.

Is ASU even worth it?

ASU offers some of the best engineering and scientific departments, and it provides a high-quality education. So putting this university within reach or safety is a great idea. They have a strong international student population, and it is obvious from all of their admissions that they promote international diversity on campus. So, we highly recommend this university.
